The EarthSave Foundation is a California non-profit agency committed to serving individuals and families in need.
Through our Meals For Health program, EarthSave drastically improves the health of groups of underprivileged individuals.
Hunger and obesity are often flip sides of the same malnutrition coin. Both hunger and obesity can be symptoms of poverty. Obesity, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, bowel diseases, arthritis and a host of other degenerative conditions are rampant in communities experiencing food insecurity.
Being poor and having serious health problems create nearly insurmountable obstacles to success.
The central health problem plaguing the underprivileged is the same one plaguing much of the modern world: it's the food.
A joint report from the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations concluded:
"Households should select predominantly plant-based diets rich in a variety of vegetables and fruits, pulses or legumes, and minimally processed starchy staple foods. The evidence that such diets will prevent or delay a significant proportion of non-communicable chronic diseases is consistent. A predominantly plant-based diet has a low energy density, and may protect against obesity."
It is not enough to advise people to change their diets. It's not enough to simply suggest people eat more fruits and vegetables. Populations benefit most when they receive education, demonstration, guidance and personal/community support.
Meals For Health teaches a lifestyle and plant-based diet proven to reverse serious diseases, get subjects off medication, and greatly improve the participants' quality of life. Until now, these programs have been available exclusively to wealthy individuals or employees of forward-thinking companies. We make them available at no cost to needy individuals and families.
Under the guidance of our Medical Director, John McDougall, MD, our "good food" Ambassador, Rip Esselstyn, and our Nutritional Director Jeff Novick MS, RD, LD, LN, Meals For Health teaches a diet that not only promotes a broad range of dramatic and lasting health benefits such as weight (fat) loss, but most importantly can also reverse serious illness, such as heart disease, without drugs. Program participants receive medical care from Matthew Lederman MD and Alona Pulde, MD.
EarthSave's Meals for Health program combats obesity, arrests and reverses chronic diseases, strengthens families, builds self-esteem and provides hope.
Our supporters and volunteers make our work possible. Since 1988, EarthSave has shown a commitment to bettering the lives of those in communities across the U.S. Please join us in fulfilling our mission.
